RIOJA ALAVESA AT CAVA BAJA

Marqués de Riscal Wines in Madrid: The Full Range in La Latina

At Txakolina Cava Baja we are a Basque house at heart, and that's why we proudly carry one of the north's most iconic wineries: Marqués de Riscal. On our menu you'll find practically its entire range, from the classic Rioja reds to the Rueda whites and its rosés.

Elciego, the birthplace of Marqués de Riscal, sits right in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, just a stone's throw from the Basque Country. That closeness is ours too: soulful Basque cooking, right in the heart of La Latina, Madrid.

A Winery with Over 160 Years of History

Marqués de Riscal was founded in 1858 in Elciego, in Rioja Alavesa, and is one of Spain's oldest and most celebrated wineries. Its name is synonymous with Rioja: elegant, age-worthy wines that have graced tables for generations.

Today the winery is also an architectural icon, home to the Ciudad del Vino and its spectacular titanium building designed by Frank Gehry. But we prefer you discover it the best way possible: with a glass poured at the table.

The Rioja Reds on Our Menu

We carry practically the full range of reds, for every occasion:

  • Marqués de Riscal Reserva, the classic that never fails.
  • Marqués de Riscal 150 Aniversario Gran Reserva, the house's great aged wine.
  • Finca Torrea and Reserva XR, more modern, concentrated single-vineyard expressions.
  • Barón de Chirel, one of the winery's most prestigious wines.
  • Frank Gehry Selection, the crown jewel for truly special occasions.

Not sure which to choose? Our team will recommend the perfect red to match your dish.

Rueda Whites and Rosés

Marqués de Riscal was a pioneer in putting Rueda whites on the map, and our menu offers a fine showcase of that legacy:

  • Marqués de Riscal Verdejo, fresh and aromatic, perfect as an aperitif.
  • Limousin and Sauvignon Blanc, whites with more body and nuance.
  • Barón de Chirel Verdejo, the top-of-the-line white.

And for rosé lovers: Marqués de Riscal Rosado and the XR Rosé, perfect for an afternoon of tapas in La Latina.

What to Pair with Each Wine

Our Basque and traditional Madrid cuisine is the best way to enjoy these wines:

  • A Reserva red with the chuletón, the cachopo, or our hearty stews.
  • A Verdejo white with fish, croquettes, or some pintxos to start.
  • A rosé with tapas to share and a leisurely sobremesa.
